YOUNGSTERS from across Halton had a ball at the weekend as they competed for the cup in a 'tag' rugby tournament.

Seven primary school teams took to the field in a bid to get their hands on the Golden Jubilee Cup and it was Lunts Heath from Widnes who emerged victorious.

Vikings community development officer, John Foran, who organised the event, said: "Everyone who took part played very well and did their schools proud."

"The standard was very high and the games were very impressive. There were some outstanding performances and the potential on display was frightening!"

Behind Lunts Heath, who won five and drew one, were Farnworth in second-place and St Gerrard's, the youngest team, in third.

The Grange school from Runcorn, and Moorfields, St Michaels, and St Bedes from Widnes also took part.

Following on from the tournament's success is an all-girl touch-rugby tournament in June and two summer schools in July.
