Tom Pickup, 14, of Lime Court, listened carefully to instructions from two adults at the scene of the incident, called an ambulance on his mobile and acted on the advice of the emergency services.

Now Jane Barlow, who works for the housing trust's Wakefield Court flatlet scheme in Leftwich, wants to put him forward for a good citizen or young hero award.

She said: "I was walking my dog near to work in Leftwich when a man collapsed and fell off his bike on Granville Road.

"I saw two young lads nearby so I shouted to them for help.

"One of them held my dog while the other used his mobile telephone to call an ambulance.

"We put the man in the recovery position but unfortunately he lost consciousness.

"We could not find a pulse and the man unfortunately died.

"It was very upsetting but I was very proud of the two boys who helped.

"They were so sensible and gave precise directions for the ambulance. We did everything we possibly could and I'm sure if the man's family and relatives knew about the circumstances, they would want to say thank you to the two boys as well."

Tom, a pupil at Leftwich High School, added: "It was good to be able to help someone in need.

"It was just a terrible shame that the gentleman died.

"I didn't expect to be nominated for an award. My family are quite proud."
