RAIL issues were the talk of the town last Thursday when representatives of the House of Commons' transport select committee visited Frodsham station.

Select committee members Gwyneth Dunwoody MP for Crewe and Nantwich, Louise Ellman MP for Liverpool, Ian Lucas MP for Wrexham and Paul Marsden MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham were on a rail trip up from London and stopped at Frodsham for about an hour to discuss rail issues with the community.

They were joined by dignitaries including Clr Keith Musgrave, leader of Vale Royal Borough Council, community representatives including Mike Collins, chairman of Frodsham Forward, Philip Briggs, chairman of the Frodsham Forward transport thematic group, Helsby parish councillor Frank Thomas and Cedric Green, of the North Cheshire Rail Users Group.

The visitors got a tour and run down of activities at the station before being treated to refreshments at Amore restaurant.

Clr Thomas, vice chairman of Frodsham Forward, said: "It was a lovely afternoon and we showed them the buildings and gave them a rundown of activities at the station and what we are trying to do there.

"We also discussed problems we have with vandalism."

The reopening of the passenger services on the Halton Curve and between Helsby to Ellesmere Port were also discussed.
