MARIE McCourt gathered with other families whose loved ones were the victims of terrible crimes to launch a national fundraising petition this week.

Marie, whose daughter Helen was murdered in 1988, was among 60 relatives who came together in London for a campaign that calls for more support for people whose lives have suffered at the hands of criminals.

Denise Fergus, the mother of murdered toddler James Bulger, helped launch the phone petition for the Victims of Crime Trust. She was joined by Sara Payne, the mother of murdered schoolgirl Sarah.

Helen McCourt was aged 22 when she was killed. Her body has never been found. Pub landlord Ian Simms was found guilty of her murder.

To sign up to the petition call 0906 780 0999. The phone line will also help raise money for the charity. Calls will cost £1 per minute, of which the Trust will receive 74p.
