THE owner of one of Warrington's largest private hire taxi firms, Abba, says that marshals are here to stay.

Phil Bailey, speaking at a borough council meeting, said he was sure that marshals working at their offices were making the town safer and encouraging more customers to use the company.

He said: "This is the way the company must go. The customers like it, the drivers like it and the police like it. We weren't sure but having begun it, I can well see the benefits of it."

The company has joined the police and the council and has set up a partnership whereby the police can view their CCTV cameras and react quickly to any crime that happens.
