youngsters gathered at Walton Hall Gardens last week to get in touch with the environment and their creative side.
With two events moulded into one, 25 children, aged between four and 12, spent the afternoon on a scavenger hunt led by park rangers Gavin Gibbons, aged 30 and Kate Phoenix, aged 21. They learnt about plant life and trees collected leaves, nuts and rocks along the way.
Potter Marjorie Carmen was then on hand to help eco-friendly youngster immortalise their finds in clay, which they took home as reminders of what they had found.
Peter Cookson, Walton Gardens zoo ranger, said: "We've done a lot of scavenger hunts in the past, but never teamed it with a pottery experience before.
"The children gained hands-on knowledge of nature and new pottery skills."
