I am appalled at the blatant waste of water that is being released through a temporary hydrant in front of Paccino's Restaurant in Stockton Heath.
On Tuesday the water had been discharging for more than 10 days at a rate of around 75 litres a minute. This was measured by our five-year-old with a bucket and stopwatch who wanted to know why it was being wasted. This is more than 100,000 litres a day (the average family swimming pool) and more than one million litres of water poured straight down the gutter so far.
Having lived with water restrictions and drought in Australia for the past 10 years, how do we educate our children to turn the taps off and be responsible with water use when confronted with this mindless waste?
Who is responsible, who is accountable, what is the problem and when will it be fixed?
