"We had a 20 per cent completion rate at one stage and in the first half it was 50 per cent.

"We have had no ball and have inflicted pain on ourselves.

"It is hard to win games without the ball.

"But I was really impressed with our attitude and pleased with our defence.

"We conceded only four tries, one off a mistake, and defensively we looked very strong.

"We looked as though we wanted to keep going and we finished strongly.

"The only time we got more than four sets in a row we scored two tries.

"If you're not completing sets it is hard to build pressure.

"We got away from where we wanted to go and I'll look at the things we could have done a bit differently

"John Stankevitch is very tired, but he showed a lot of character. He was fantastic.

"To be out for nine months and come back the way he did means he can be very proud."

Denis Betts (Wigan assistant coach):

"It's amazing what a week and a bit of enthusiasm can do.

"There has always been ability in this side. It was just the confidence to step up to the mark

"We lived up to our side of the bargain of what we set out to achieve.

"It is amazing how much energy you get when things go your way.

"When things are not going your way the sun is burning a hole in your head but when it is going your way you're looking to get a sun tan.

"That was what we have been trying to achieve for the last few weeks.

"Saints tried to do what they always do but we out-defended them.

"Defence was the foundation of everything we did."
