Padgett, Byrne lead Dolphins

WARRINGTON Dolphins Long Distance Swimming Club held their 10th annual Budworth Mere Championships on Saturday.

Swimmers from all over the country took part in the event and the Dolphins contingent rose to the occasion.

Graham Padgett won the men's three-mile race. Keith Bosson finished a short distance behind in third position.

Chris Byrne was victorious in the three-mile breaststroke race and Christian Wade secured third spot in his first attempt at an open water race. Wade's time in the one-mile novice race was 24mins 21secs.

Clare Kane won the two-mile junior championship and Natalie Jones was second in the women's senior three-mile championship.

Springers success

SANKEY Springers Trampolining Club are celebrating triple triumph at the Birkenhead Grades.

Great Sankey stars Mark Humphries, aged 14, and Charlotte Rainford, aged 15, won their under 18s grade four and five events respectively.

Mark also secured his grade three qualification while Locking Stumps ace David Barlow, aged 13, recorded a podium finish in only his second competitive outing. He came third in the under 15s grade five event.

Warriors medals

WARRIORS of Warrington swimmers were selected to compete for Liverpool and District in an Inter-Association competition in Salford.

Two of them won medals against the cream of the crop from the north of England and the midlands.

They were Julie Connor, who finished third in the 13-year girls' 400 metres freestyle competition, and Edward Shattock, who won a bronze medal in the 12-year boys' 200m butterfly event.

Their respective times were 47.86secs and 49.5secs.

Team home first

ADRIAN Timmins led Warrington Athletics Club's team home first in the 5k race at Hollins Green.

Timmins was eighth and followed home by Neil Crompton, Mike Timnins and Steve Burthem.
