Pay outs to crack knockout bowlers

TWO Warrington bowlers pocketed cheques after winning five games in top quality competitions.

Charlie Bebbington picked up £200 for reaching the semi-finals of the Noel Rawcliffe Builders Kirkham Classic and Larry Wells earned £110 by reaching the same stage of the Derek Fletcher Classic at Dobbies Radcliffe.

Wells and Bebbington both lost 21-17 to the eventual winners of the competitions - Lee Lawton and Jason Cornes.

Men move on

FOUR Warrington bowlers took the honours in the second round of the £5,490 Fieldhouse Industrial Services Classic at Hill Crest Sowerby Bridge.

Tommy Johnstone, Alex Heaps, Carl Armitage and Stuart Goodwin took the four sub-finals places up for grabs. They beat Dewsbury's Paul Firth, Halifax's Adrian Kenyon, Liverpool's Mike Tunstall and Dobcross' Dave Thornley respectively.

The sub-finals will start at the end of June.

Merit qualifiers

WARRINGTON'S list of qualifiers for the Lancashire Merit is complete.

Bulls Head's Len Lawlor and Tetley's Reg Houghton won the final qualifier at King and Queen on Sunday. They go into the final 32 at Monk Sports Club from noon on June 20 alongside fellow Warrington bowlers John Clarke, Alex Heaps, Mike Burrows, Brian Brady and Steve Brown.

Trophy defeat

BULLS Head Bowls Club put in a spirited performance in their annual challenge match with Johnstown BC but they failed to retain the Parker Trophy.

Ted Done and Tony Chetter showed superb form against the Welshmen while Selwyn Butler shone on his debut.

Mixed Pairs

ENTRIES are being taken for Warrington Sunday Night Mixed Pairs Bowls League's Eric Smith Trophy.
