WARRINGTON Athletics Club amazingly finished fourth in the second match of the North of England Track and Field League.

Although Warrington were only able to field nine athletes at Wigan on Saturday they produced some excellent performances.

Emma Makin led the way among Warrington's five women taking part. She competed in four individual events and gained two first places, one second spot and a third.

Her 3000 metres time was a personal best by a minute and she also won the 400m hurdles.

John Hilton produced the top performance among the men as he won the 100m and 200m races in personal best times and finished second in the A long jump.

Suzanne Andrews competed in six events and was first in the B 100m, second in the 200m and 400m and third in the discus. Claire Irons was first in the B 3000m and third in the hammer.

Fifteen-year-olds Heather Roberts and Faye Lawless gave their all too. Heather won the A 200m and was second in the B 100m and the high jump while Faye ran an excellent 800m to take second place. Heather, Suzanne, Faye and Emma then combined to win the 4x100m relay.

Brandon Foster was second in the B long jump, third in the 800m and the triple jump while Ian Costello was fourth in the 1500m. Club chairman Dave Spencer was fifth in the hammer.
