FIFE Rangers lifted Warrington Junior Soccer League's Under 14s Challenge Cup on Sunday but only after a tense final showdown with rivals Cadishead at Victoria Park Arena.

The game ended all square after extra time and Fife won 4-3 after a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Fife goalkeeper Ryan Taylor was the hero but not only for his key save in the penalty shoot-out.

He saved a penalty in the 35th minute.

That left the half-time score at 1-1 and in the second half Fife kept having to claw back from a goal behind until the final whistle blew at 3-3. No goals were scored in extra time.

Cadishead took a deserved lead after 29 minutes through Joel Darcy.

Fife responded almost immediately. Kurt Emery picked up the ball outside of the penalty area and hit a crisp right foot volley into the left hand corner of the net.

Cadishead regained the lead with a right foot shot from Luke Flannagan after 40 minutes.

Fife again responded almost immediately. Andy Dawson cut in from the right wing and beat the defence to slip the ball home.

A long through ball caught the Fife goalkeeper out. He misjudged the bounce and Joel Darcy was able to net his second goal of the match in the 55th minute.

This seemed to have settled the game but Fife kept trying and were rewarded in the 70th minute.

A long through ball bounced and Andy Dawson leapt with the goalkeeper.

He managed to get there first to loop a header into the net for his second, Fife's third and the equaliser to force the extra time.

Cadishead were also defeated in the Under 15s Challenge Cup final.

They lost 3-2 to Bayer despite taking a ninth minute lead with a good finish from Luke Crawford.

Bayer equalised after 38 minutes when Craig Shone broke from the left wing and tucked the ball past the Cadishead goalkeeper.

A second Bayer goal quickly followed via a fierce Jamie Noone shot on 40 minutes.

On 49 minutes Bayer scored what proved to be the winning goal through Nick Fox.

Cadishead responded well and pulled a goal back on 55 minutes through a Darren Andrews free kick.
