THE 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings was marked on Sunday, with veterans from across the town meeting to remember the day that the liberation of Europe began.
Members of the Warrington (Town) No. 50 Branch Normandy Veterans' Association held a wreath-laying ceremony at Alford Hall, followed by a church service at St Thomas' in Stockton Heath.
Hilda Talbot, from the association, said: "It all went very well and there were between 30 and 40 veterans there for the day and around 100 people at the church.
"Among the guests were Lord and Lady Ashbrook (owners of Arley Hall). He was asked to be president of the association at the 50th anniversary and he has stayed with us ever since."
The wreath-laying ceremony took place at the site of the Normandy Stone at Alford Hall, which was laid to mark the 50th anniversary of D-Day.
Then, during the service at St Thomas', the standards of the association were handed into the safekeeping of the church. The association will continue to exist, though, and will visit Arley Hall later this year.
Meanwhile, staff and residents at Ryfields Retirement Village in Orford marked the anniversary with a special show.
Vintage costumes and wartime memories were the order of the day for the celebrations.
