Mrs Gertrude Constance (Connie) Sharples died of a chest infection on April 22. She was 83.

Mrs Sharples, of St Peter's Court, Warrington, was born in Irlam and had lived in Warrington for the past 40 years.

During the Second World War she worked on munitions at Trafford Park, and later was employed as a secretary at Lancashire Steel Works, Irlam.

In her younger days Mrs Sharples enjoyed ballroom dancing, holidays with her sister and outings with family and friends, and many years ago she was involved in teaching English to the Vietnamese boat people.

She was a member of the Lady Freemasons, holding the position of past-master of Lodge Acacia No 83 in Warrington.

She was a keen member of St Oswald's Over-65s Club and the Alliance Box Pensioners' Club.

Mrs Sharples leaves a sister, and seven nephews and nieces.

A service was held on April 30 at St Elphin's Parish Church, followed by cremation at Walton Lea. Mr G Dunn officiated.
