Mr Ernest Needham Reid, husband of Mrs Marian Reid, died of an intra cerebral haemorrhage on May 1. He was 78.
Mr Reid, of Ryfields Village, was born in Manchester and had lived in the Warrington area for 30 years.
During the Second World War he served with the Royal Navy, and was employed by Manchester Fire Brigade for 11 years, before working at Chloride Batteries, Swinton, for 27 years as fire and security officer.
He enjoyed reading, holidays abroad, and the company of family and friends, particularly his children and grandchildren.
Mr Reid leaves his wife, two children and four grandchildren.
A service was held on May 14 at Walton Lea, followed by cremation.
CA Jackie Recchia officiated.
Arrangements were made by A Maddock & Son.
