THE classic war movie has been re-released on DVD to mark the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
The cast list for this wartime classic is remarkable, with names such as Sean Connery, Robert Redford, Dirk Bogarde and Laurence Olivier to name just four of the actors starring in the film.
It is a truly gripping epic based on Operation Market Garden, as the Allies try to capture bridges, but inevitably over reach themselves, the bridge at Arnhem proving to be a bridge too far.
The film shows the breathtaking panoramas of the Dutch countryside as paratroopers land and this contrasts sharply with the gritty and harsh surroundings of fighting a war in the suburbs.
Made in 1977, the film is still very relevant today, and proves that wars are not won on strategy, planning or cunning, but on which side makes the least mistakes.
