MOST non-league clubs struggle to retain the services of prolific goalscoarers, with many successful players looking to ply their trade in a higher division.

It is amazing then that Witton Albion have been able to fend off any advances for Mike Moseley for the past three years.

Moseley is perhaps the most consistent goalscorer in the higher echelons of the non-league pyramid and for the past two years has topped the Albion scoring charts with 34 goals in each season.

And the signs are that he will again finish as the club's top marksman this term having already scored nine times in 15 games.

In fact his career statistics at Witton rival those of any striker anywhere in the world.

The 25-year-old was released by Runcorn in the summer of 2001 and since then has made 151 appearances for Witton, scoring 92 goals at an average of a goal ever 1.6 games, a strike rate to rival even Ruud van Nistelrooy.

And Witton's assistant manager Peter King is convinced that the red and white goal machine will keep scoring the goals for Albion.

He said: "I spoke to Mike recently and he's got one or two flaws in his game.

"The higher up the ladder you go the more they will be highlighted so he's got to work on those and it is something we're looking at in training.

"His awareness of what's going on around him is one thing, but having said that he has shown that he would score goals at a higher standard.

"But for the moment he will be staying here.

"Mike's got a young family and if a move was to come about that would be something he would have to consider.

"Obviously the club would never want him to leave, but if a move came that would further his career we wouldn't stand in the way."

And King is aware that in recent times Witton have been far too reliant on Moseley's goals.

He added: "We need to add more firepower to our side at the moment to take some of the work load away from Mike.

"We need other people at the club to start chipping in with the goals."
