HELSBY councillors are still deciding on the best way to change the colour of the two welcome signs that appeared in the village last month.

They agreed in a September council meeting that the signs produced were not what they expected and it was very difficult to read the writing on the green and gold signs.

They decided they would look into ways of getting the signs altered. The signs were discussed again at the parish council meeting last Tuesday.

Parish clerk Jeanette Hughes reported that the council had been obtaining quotes for repainting the signs.

Clr Stuart Hulse volunteered to take signs down to manufacturers in Bedford as they can be repainted and ready in three hours.

The council decided to contact local sign writers first to see if they could give a price for painting over letters with black cellulose paint before deciding on what to do next.
