DRIVERS faced misery after roadworks began on the A530 King Street on Monday.
Problems have been compounded because of the closure at Hayhurst Bridge in the centre of Northwich.
King Street runs from Rudheath right the way through to Middlewich.
Vern McEwan, of Sunshine Marine Ltd on Brooks Lane in Middlewich, said: "Having a business in Middlewich and living in Northwich is an absolute nightmare for me.
"I tried to get back to work from Holmes Chapel at about 5.30pm on Monday night and the traffic was backed right up from Middlewich to the motorway.
"It has made the traffic in Middlewich much worse."
Another driver coming from Winsford to Northwich said: "The problem seems to be when I arrive in Northwich.
"Traffic is much worse coming through Kingsmead and down London Road.
"Obviously it doesn't help that the bridge is closed. It's ridiculous."
