AS a child I was taught that the local councillors were just like our parents, and were there to look after the interests of the most vulnerable members of society.
When did this change?
The latest example of their uncaring attitude is the extension to the car park at GUS/Argos at Royal Avenue.
At present, when vehicles exit the car park you have to cross the green mother and child pathway - the safe route to school.
It doesn't take a mathematician to work out the potential increase in numbers if the present plans are carried out.
A pedestrian pathway adjacent to the offices, part of an ancient right of way, is used as a route to schools and local shops.
Will this be affected by the present plans?
Don't the council liaise with local schools and people with an intimate knowledge of an area before coming to a decision?
I appeal to them to think again and see if there is a more suitable alternative.
It's not too late for a change of plan, the current one has been passed without implementation for a number of years.
