CONCERNS have been raised about the closed circuit television cameras situated at the Wych Centre, on Civic Way.

The issue was raised at Middlewich Town Council on Monday night when councillors discussed a recent break-in at the youth centre.

Some time between October 8 and 10 a storage shed at the Wych Centre was damaged and then burgled and town mayor Clr Jim Basford said that if the CCTV camera had been working properly it would have picked up the culprits responsible for the incident.

Clr Simon McGrory agreed, saying: "The CCTV has given us no chance of finding out who broke in."

Clr Fred Smith was concerned that none of the cameras in the town were working but Clr Paul Edwards explained: "They are working, they are physically taking pictures - the problems are with the automatic fittings."

The council will contact Clr Tony Potts from Congleton Borough Council and invite him to talk with members about issues relating to the CCTV cameras, to give members a better understanding of what the problems have been and how improvements to the service can be made.
