Winnington Park 10 Widnes Vets 12
A LAST minute try from Brian Gill gave the Wids the lead for the first time and victory.
Defences were on top from the start but Winnington Park led 7-0 at half time after a sustained period of attack was rewarded with a try.
Straight from the kick-off, the Wids readjusted their tactics with more emphasis on a handling game and a break from the pack saw Gill go over for his first score, converted by Phil Catterall from the touchline.
The teams stayed level until five minutes from the end when the home side slotted over a penalty to gain a three-point advantage.
Solid play from a determined side set up Gill on a 35-yard dash which and only left time for the referee's final whistle.
