Blackbrook U13s 6

Halton Farnworth Hornets U13s 28

THIS was a superb team performance especially as an injury to Jordan Barr prior to the game resulted in a re-shuffle.

Hornets drew first blood when Andrew Stevens Davies, who continually caused havoc in the Brook defence, raced over from long range to score in the corner.

The same player then went on a similar run to give the Widnes side an eight-point lead.

Having dominated the game, Hornets conceded two penalties in succession and Brook took full advantage to reduce the arrears to just two points.

Hornets came back stronger, Gareth O'Brien saw space and followed his own kick to drop on the ball in the in-goal area.

The scorer converted to give Halton a 6-14 lead at half time.

In the second half Brook were denied another score and in fact rarely broke into the Hornets half such was the tackling of the visitors.

A further 14 points were scored by Hornets, tries coming from Liam Hulme, Lewis Shingler and Stevens-Davies who completed his hat-trick, O'Brien converting one to give Hornets a 6-28 victory.

The forwards worked tirelessly, non-more so than Ken Gilhooley and Tom Fry.

This could have been a more emphatic victory, as both Lewis Bailey and then Ryan Risley were both denied having crossed the whitewash only for the ball to come loose in the tackle.
