THIS was a solid, patient display from the Widnes boys without ever reaching the heights displayed in the recent festival.
Both teams scored two tries, so the conversions of Matthew Fozard and Dominic Speakman were crucial.
The first Widnes try, albeit a little fortunate, came on the last tackle when they refused to let the ball die in the tackle and after a scrappy series of passes, winger Jordan Campbell sped on a diagonal run to score in the corner.
If the try itself was a little scrappy, the lead up play was more impressive.
The second Widnes try came directly from the restart after Wigan had fought back to take the lead with two tries.
However, the Widnes response was incisive with Jack Buck taking the control from the play-the-ball to gain good yards allowing Alexander Clare to force his way over.
