A SPATE of vandalism at Knights Grange Sports Complex has left members of the cricket club angry and frustrated.

The latest incident happened between 4pm on October 13 and 7.30am the following day when vandals ripped out fencing and used it as a ramming device to break into a shed containing equipment.

Although attempts to gain access were unsuccessful it caused £150 of damage and people are now resigned to the fact that this kind of behaviour will continue.

Andrew Cooper, chairman of Winsford Cricket Club, said: "We have had six weeks of madness with a number of instances of vandalism.

"There is nothing we can do about it - what more can people do?

"It is an area that people get a lot of enjoyment from and a few people are determined to stop that from happening.

"The problem is that by highlighting instances like this it often encourages it to happen even more."

Instances of vandalism in the past include the cricket nets being damaged and cars being driven across the sports field. Winsford town councillor Peter Gannon said: "There's not much to say other than we have to trust the police can do something about it.

"It is an ongoing problem of anti-social behaviour and it is very disappointing when you hear of instances like this.

"The sports complex is a great facility and it is extremely frustrating that nothing seems to be being done about it."
