St Cuthbert's 28
Widnes Albion 28
WIDNES Albion finally got their season up and running with a draw at Wigan St Cuthbert's.
They took an early lead with a try direct from a scrum by Danny Houghton, who also added the extras, then a try by new signing Alex Williams, Houghton's conversion giving Albion a 12-0 lead.
On a rare foray into Albion territory St Cuthbert's got a try and conversion thanks to a wicked bounce, which deceived the visiting defence.
A second by Williams, converted by Chris Freeman put Albion 18-6 ahead only for the home side to hit back with a try.
This was countered by a good run from Stu Davies paving the way for Freeman to score only for the home side to land a converted try late in the half.
St Cuthbert's equalised before Williams scored his hat-trick try, Houghton converting, only for St Cuthbert's to level once more.
Albion went close with good efforts by Phil Wood, Danny Gilmore and Mark Lynch but the game finished all square at the final whistle.
Albion training is on Tuesday at Ss Peter & Paul's gym, 7pm-8pm and Thursdays, 6.30pm under the lights at Leigh Rec.
Albion are at home to Farnworth this Saturday, October 23.
