A MAN was robbed in Northwich by a conman who held an object to his throat and stole a quantity of cash from him after luring him out of the town centre.

The robber had gone into two premises in High Street on Tuesday, October 12, between 1pm and 1.30pm, claiming he was selling electrical equipment.

He showed staff a brochure and when people offered to buy items, said they would need to drive to get them.

He went in a car with a man in his 20s, making him stop in a number of car parks before they got out near Northwich cinema where he asked the man to go down the side of the building.

He grabbed his victim from behind, held the object to his throat and stole the cash, leaving him extremely shaken but not physically injured.

Police described the robber as about 5ft 8in with short brown hair and stubble.

They said he spoke with a strong, southern accent and wore a dark, ribbed knitted jumper with two buttons on the sleeves and sandblast blue jeans.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "At the moment this is an isolated incident.

"We would advise people to use authorised outlets when buying electrical items."
