RESIDENTS were woken from their sleep as part of a mass evacuation in Wilderspool following an explosion this morning.
People are being urged to stay away from the area as emergency services tackle a fire involving gas cylinders at a unit on Palatine Industrial Estate, off Causeway Avenue.
Priestly College had to turn away its students and has closed its doors for the day.
Firefighters are expected to be at the scene for the rest of the day.
