Cuddington 2

HOLMES CHAPEL FC 1

MID-CHESHIRE Sunday League Division Two leaders Holmes Chapel were involved in district cup action on Sunday as they travelled to First Division outfit Cuddington.

The game started with a goal almost immediately from the hosts.

An early corner was turned home to put Chapel on the back foot from the start.

But they reacted in the best possible way and started producing some great football in search of the equaliser.

It deservedly arrived after 15 minutes with P Bayliss slotting the ball past the Cuddington goalkeeper after an Evans' cross.

Chapel began to dominate with countless attacks that had the Cuddington back line scrambling the ball clear on more than one occasion.

Rebbeck produced a superb chip that cannoned off the crossbar but R Bayliss was unable to turn in the rebound.

Then Brandon saw a headed goal disallowed for a push.

Chapel were dealt a cruel blow as Cuddington scored from a rare forage forward just before half-time.

A long-distance effort beat the Chapel goalkeeper to send the teams in at half-time separated by one goal.

The second half continued in a similar pattern, but the luck was against Chapel as chances went begging with the Cuddington goalkeeper performing heroics to keep his side ahead.

Chapel's luck was summed up with a late shot being deflected into the hands of the grateful Cuddington goalkeeper.

Chapel though left with heads held high and the respect of the opposition.
