A TOP six finish for Widnes could be on the cards next season now Frank Endacott is at the helm, says Vikings chairman Tony Chambers.

The Kiwi ended weeks of speculation by finally putting pen to paper on a two-year deal after saving them from relegation.

"We certainly aim to finish significantly higher than 11th next year," said Mr Chambers.

"Obviously we are rebuilding at the minute, and Frank has played a major role in recruitment, but the ambition of this club hasn't changed despite the setbacks.

"Every year we aim to improve and eventually challenge for the top six and beyond but it's something we will talk to Frank about when he arrives."

The strength of the Vikings' challenge will depend largely on the quality of their halfbacks and Mr Chambers admitted the club was doing everything it could to bolster the backs.

"We need three more quality signings at least and we aim to have the squad completed in time for training on November 15," he said.

"We have signed players who want to play for Widnes, some coming to the ends of their careers and some trying to make a name for themselves.

"The pack is looking pretty strong now but half-backs and possibly a winger are the priority now."

Great Britain fullback and centre Gary Connolly, 33, has signed a one-year deal and adds to the ex-Wigan contingent in the Vikings' new-look squad.
