ANOTHER win and another clean sheet away from home kept Winsford Ladies FC at the top of the table with six straight victories.

The match, against Great Sutton, was always going to be a difficult game with the opposition unbeaten at home and the game played on a poor pitch with very windy conditions.

Winsford had the better of the chances in the first half, but failed to make the most of their opportunities with both Michaela Thompson and Becky Hilditch wasting chances.

Fortunately the Winsford defence was on top form again giving the opposition very few sights on goal.

Winsford stepped up a gear in the second half, but the opposition were working very hard and it took a brilliant goal to give Winsford the lead.

A superb ball into the box by Jen Burgess was met superbly by Thompson, who volleyed the ball into the corner of the net after 62 minutes.

Not long after Great Sutton had their only opportunity of the second half, a fierce shot was well saved by Kayleigh Hatfield.

On 76 minutes Winsford got a deserved second, a through ball to top scorer Sarah Lee saw her show great composure by taking the ball past the defender and blasting a shot past the keeper for 2-0.

Winsford had chances to go further ahead, but it was the well-organised defence who can take a lot of credit for the win, marshalled by captain and player of the match Emma Johnson.

This weekend sees Winsford take on unbeaten Manchester City at the Barton Stadium with kick off at 2pm.
