THE U12s visited Altrincham Kersal (AK) along with Aldwinians in a three-way competition.

Against AK the Wids took control with Hough producing superb tackling and devastating runs.

Quick service from the scrum by Glover allowed the Wids backs to carve through gaps in the AK defence.

Effective passing saw the three quarter line using the width of the pitch to good effect and Doolan, Smith, Hough and Thompson all played with skill.

Full Back Crank's safe hands cleaned up behind the lines and never allowed AK the advantage.

Phillips's penetrating penalty kicks took Widnes closer to the AK line.

Price, Morris, Phillips, Buckle and Preston dominated at the breakdowns and lineouts while Rugan and Leather were excellent.

In the second game, the same Wids 13 faced Aldwinians.

Pressure from the big Aldwinians pack was eventually rewarded and at half time they led 7-0.

Hough had to leave the pitch following a brave try-saving tackle and Morris soon followed with an eye injury.

Aldwinians saw the chance to go away with their first victory against the Wids and a spilled ball over the Wids line was given as a try.

The U12s travel to Huddersfield next week to defend their trophy in the final year before the transition to 15-a-side next season.

THE Wids U7s also visited Altrincham Kersal for a triangular tournament with the hosts and Aldwinians.

With a squad of 15 players they produced their best performances of the season.

Usually slow starters, they came away with two well-deserved victories, with both full time scores being 20-15.

The Wids played an excellent running game and the squad all played to their full potential.

Hulme was first to score outpacing the Orrell defence to go over in the corner.

Varley powered over after Stewart and Griffiths were stopped short of the line.

Williamson was next on the score sheet knocking off five would-be tacklers to race over from 40 metres.

Barton sidestepped his way over; Forrest then put Varley over for his second with Dennett adding on two goals.

The second half was played mainly in Orrell's half with only some superb defence denying the Wids more scores.

Hatton, Harrison, McMuldroch and McNally all went close before Nuttall rounded off a flowing backs move, Dennett added the conversion.

Orrell scored a consolation try deep in injury time.

Waterloo U13s 15 Widnes U13s 26

WIDNES went top of their Lancashire cup group with an excellent win at Waterloo.

Darryl Bold opened the scoring with a dash down the right touchline and then scored again finishing a good forward drive with Conor Wright and Chris Birchall prominent.

In the second half, Waterloo battled back to 12-10. But Chris Schofield scored after being fed by Lang and Rory Nelson added the conversion.
