MORTALITY and morbidity figures for all types of cancers in Halton continue to be one of the highest in England and Wales.

Therefore, it was it was gratifying to hear at a recent council meeting that a strategy is in place to improve cancer services across the board in Halton.

Some of these are already in place and no doubt our position in the cancer league will go in the right direction.

The health and local council partnership must be congratulated for their actions in dealing with this matter.

One issue of crucial importance in combating cancer according to a recent national report is the early detection of the disease and effective and sensitive use of information giving and early screening to further this aim.

This issue was picked up at the meeting and related to the Halton situation and hopefully the reports objectives in this area will be achieved.

Halton Green Party sees health and environmental issues as the number one priority in Halton and is actively involved in work in relation to these issues in the area.
