A QUICK-thinking teenager who helped a young girl hit by a car has been honoured by Princess Anne.

Daniel Wilkinson, aged 16, who is a St John Ambulance cadet, put his first aid training into action when a year seven pupil at William Beamont School was hit by a car on Winwick Road on March 18.

She suffered a head wound but Daniel stayed calm, phoned for an ambulance, and applied pressure to the wound to control the blood loss.

The 12-year-old girl, who has not been named, was taken to hospital and received five stitches for her head wound.

Daniel, who was also a pupil at the school and lives on Gerard Avenue, travelled to London on November 3 for a special reception at Buckingham Palace.

Catherine Craze, chief executive officer of St John Ambulance, said: "The reception at Buckingham Palace formally recognises the determination and commitment these young people have. Meeting the Princess Royal is a great honour, and for these members it is very well deserved."

Daniel is a member of Warrington's St John Ambulance, which meets at 112 Hoyle Street on Tuesdays from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
