ANOTHER excellent defensive display from Albert Park saw them beat a Haydock A side that had only lost once all season.

All the early pressure came from the St Helens side but the Albert kept them out with a well-organised defence, Mellor, Gregson, Murphy and Abram all tackling well.

Taylor and Turner made good yards down the middle but promising positions were lost due to handling errors.

The deadlock was broken on 20 minutes when Haydock shifted the ball out to the left for the winger who evaded a couple of tackles to go over in the corner. The conversion giving them a six-point lead.

Albert Park came back and twice went close but all they could muster was a penalty goal from Chris Walton.

Haydock attacked but the Albert's solid defence held firm.

Albert Park controlled the ball much better in the second half and strong running from Ditchfield kept punching holes in the Haydock defence.

Albert finally scored when they kept the ball alive on the last tackle and the ball was moved to the right for Andrew Horabin to crash over out wide. Chris Walton added the conversion.

A couple of mistakes in their own half as the pressure mounted didn't help the Albert but excellent defence and team spirit saw them hold on for a fine win.

Aber Roof Truss Ltd man of the match was Chris Walton.

This week Albert Park travel to Oldham to take on Higginshaw, kick-off 2pm.
