THE family of a 21-year-old Winsford father who was killed after being hit by a stolen car have spoken of their grief after the man responsible pleaded guilty in court.

David John May, 18, of Cleveland Way, admitted causing death by dangerous driving in Chester Crown Court on Friday following an incident in which Mark Lucas, the father of a five-week-old baby, died.

Linsey Verdin, Mark's fiance and mother of his child, Lily Mai, does not think she will ever get over losing her future husband.

She said: "He has ruined my life and the life of our baby and I will never be able to move on.

"He has taken an innocent life and no sentence the courts can give will ever be able to make up for that.

"It has been difficult bringing up a baby on my own but my family and friends have been there for me."

May will be sentenced in Chester Crown Court on December 22 for causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at an accident, failing to report an accident, driving while disqualified, driving without a licence and having no insurance.

Linsey said: "This still isn't over for myself and my baby and it won't be over when he is sentenced.

"He will be released one day but myself and Lily Mai are going to have to live with this for the rest of our lives."

Mark was cycling home past the junction of Dover Drive and Wingfield Place after visiting his fiance and daughter on September 11 when he was hit by a stolen Vauxhall Vectra driven by May.

Joanne Lucas, Mark's sister, said: "Whatever sentence he gets won't make up for taking the life of my brother.

"What are we going to say to Lily Mai when she is old enough to understand what has happened, because by that time he will probably be walking the streets again.

"He was the father of a young child and looking forward to the rest of his life but David May has ruined all that and there are still a lot of questions that my family wants answers for."
