MOND took the lead in the seventh minute when Erickson's shot eluded trickled in.

Williams increased Mond's lead in the 14th minute after the 'keeper had spilled a low cross from Gumbs.

The visitors responded and Hughson produced a superb save diving to his left to hold a stinging drive.

With New Brighton pressing forward a simple lob over their flat back four put Erickson through and his fierce shot found the top corner.

The visitor's 'keeper denied Williams when he broke clear as Mond exploited the space behind the visitors' defence. The second half saw Mond waste a number of openings.

Ingham beat three defenders then fired wide and Williams blazed over, then Moore fired wide of the upright.

When Linnett tripped a New Brighton forward just inside the penalty area, Gary Hughson went full length to tip the ball past the post.

Man of the match was Leon Williams.

Next Saturday, Mond are home to Moore Utd in the quarter final of the Runcorn senior cup, kick-off 1.30pm.

Mond Reserves have an away league game scheduled with Willaston A Reserves, kick-off 2pm.

AFTER just two minutes New Brighton were awarded a penalty which Jason Bate in the Mond goal saved.

New Brighton dominated early on but Mark Tudor and Mike Garland were both excellent at the heart of the Mond defence.

New Brighton took the lead early in the second half with Tony Lunt getting Mond's equaliser in the 62nd minute.

Five minutes later Mond took the lead through Scott Howard who got on the end of Gary Lupton's cross.

Mond secured the points in the 81st minute, Kevin Patterson, whose form in the last few weeks has been outstanding got onto the end of a Jamie O'Hara corner.

Youngster Matty Johnson was introduced before both Ged Bushell and Matty Johnson went close.

Mond's manager Gary Moore has signed two more players with Russell Whitehead picking up an ankle knock and Michael Smith a permanent non-starter.

Additional players are always welcome.

Mond Rangers have been drawn against Upton AA in the semi final of the West Cheshire Bowl on either March 2 or 9, kick-off 7.30pm, venue to be arranged.

Mond Reserves play New Brighton Reserves in the semi final of the West Cheshire Shield on February 2 or 9, kick-off 7.30pm, venue to be confirmed.
