A GREAT gran with the energy of a 20-year-old has been crowned the north west's most golden oldie!

Selina James is now through to the final of Seven Seas Golden Oldie 2004 and could win a four star inclusive holiday to Madeira.

"I was surprised," said Selina, of Windmill Hill, Runcorn. "I'm just a working class person."

Her granddaughter Kate Prime, 23, nominated her for her incredible stamina and zest for life.

Selina has four children, nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

One of her sons, Neil, is mentally and physically disabled and would be lost without the attentive care provided by Selina and her husband.

Kate says her gran has the energy and enthusiasm of a 20-year-old, despite her own health problems.

"I think it's important to look after my family," said Selina. "I didn't realise I'd done anything special over the years but obviously I have done something Kate is proud of."

Selina, a keen gardener, has so far won a gardening kit and year's supply of Seven Seas Cod Liver Oil.

Celebrity Gloria Hunniford will be judging the final.
