AVON'S victory has put them joint top with Rainhill Town in the Warrington first division.

After the last two results the Avon players were determined not to throw another three points away and took the game to their hosts.

The pressure told after 10 minutes when a desperate clearance from a Vicars defender from a corner went in to his own net.

A bit of luck for the Widnes side at last, but the defending nightmare returned when Vicars equalised after half an hour.

A half time pep talk seemed to do the trick as Avon went all out and were awarded a penalty two minutes after the restart.

Steve O'Grady shot into the corner to put Avon back into the lead.

Avon created more chances and hit the bar twice and saw the Vicars 'keeper make several good saves.

The last five minutes Vicars pushed everyone up and nearly got the equaliser but Avon 'keeper Tyrell blocked at the foot of the post just before the final whistle.

Avon Athletic 1 Bebington 7

THE reserve side knew this would be a tough game against their unbeaten visitors but the final result flattered Bebington.

A goal down at the break Avon were still in the hunt but a couple of early goals made the task even harder.

There was some hope when Chris Morris pulled a goal back for the home side that then pressed leaving big gaps in the defence that the visitors took full advantage of scoring four goals in the last 10 minutes.

On Saturday the first tem are at home against Silverbirch in the league and the second team are away at Pensby, both kick-off at 2pm.
