A BAD opening to each half let Albion down.

At 10-0 down, Danny Houghton went through four would-be tacklers for a fine 50-yard effort only for a Simmies to score a converted try.

Danny Doherty reduced the arrears with a penalty.

Good work by forwards Houghton, Mark Woodward and Alex Williams trouble the home side while Craig Wood, Danny Gilmore and newcomer Billy Liddell kept the backs going.

Unfortunately a bad 20 minutes saw them concede four tries and two goals.

The Bulls nearly added some points after good work by Woodward and Stuart Davies

Widnes Albion Bulls 27 Orrell St James 34

ALBION lost despite leading by three points with seven minutes to play.

They were 12-0 down inside 20 minutes but Danny Houghton crashed over and converted.

Albion threw everything at Orrell only for the visitors to score a breakaway try and goal.

Alex Williams replied and Craig Yates converted for a 12-18 deficit at half time.

Another early try to Orrell increased their lead but Houghton cancelled out the opposition.

Danny Doherty got over under the posts, Yates converting to equalise at 22-22.

Orrell nudged ahead after a penalty before Williams landed his second try to put Albion ahead.

Yates landed a drop goal going into the last 10 minutes but a kick and chase by Orrell saw a wicked bounce beat the defence and the Orrell winger took a cross and a conversion to put Albion three points in arrears.

Orrell won with a last minute try.
