Widnes Tigers 8 Ince Rose Bridge A 4

North West Counties Division Four

WIDNES Tigers beat league leaders Ince Rose Bridge A at Prescott Road.

The hosts trailed 0-4 after 15 minutes although Mick Abbott and Adam Gill were both unlucky not to have scored.

A tactical substitution brought Shaun Rooney into the game with second row Ste Filkins moving out to the wing.

The first half ended 0-4 but the Tigers looked to have the edge.

From a play-the-ball early in the second half, hooker John Connor set up prop Mat Gill who collected and crashed through the defending line for a try.

Adam Gill failed to add the extras.

Jimmy Cassidy set up a number of Tigers' attacks while also marshalling the defence.

Linking up well with Mike Barr was Darrell Headen who was well supported by Dave Smith.

From an attacking move Barr collected from Cassidy and set off at speed.

It took a fine cover tackle to stop Barr but with none of his team mates in position was forced to hold Barr down.

The ref awarded the penalty and gave the Ince player a 10-minute spell on the touchline. Adam Gill scored the penalty.

Hard tackling from Dave Smith, Shaun Rooney, Darrell Headen, Andy Abbott and John Connor prevented Ince from regaining the advantage.

Filkins also put in a fine defensive game and produced some blistering cross-field runs.

Cassidy floated an inch perfect kick across field, which Mick Abbott collected but he was called offside.

Ince thought they had touched down but a tackle from Filkins held up the Ince player.

The Tigers added two points from an Adam Gill penalty.

The visitors' man of the match was Darrell Headen.

Sponsor M D Electrics man of the match went to Dave Smith.

The Tigers next match is at Crosfields next Saturday.
