Altrincham and District League Division One

KNUTSFORD FC A 3 Trafford FC 5

A THRILLING game of football at Manchester Road on Saturday was a treat for the spectators but Knutsford will be disappointed with the final outcome as an impressive Trafford took all three points in emphatic style. The home side took the lead through James Cumbes in the 14th minute and looked set to go in at half-time 1-0 up.

However, in the final seconds Trafford capitalised on a mistake in midfield to make it 1-1.

Drama

The rapidly fading light added to the drama of the second half and there was plenty of end-to-end action to enthral the neutral observer.

Trafford took a 2-1 lead but the Reds replied almost immediately with a well-deserved goal from Allan Watson who is currently enjoying a rich run of form.

The visitors took the lead again with a wonder strike by Waring from 25 yards.

Knutsford hit back in a pulsating period of the game.

Cumbes finished off one of Knutsford's best moves of the match to make it 3-3.

Another brilliant Trafford effort, destined for the top corner, was matched with an outstanding save by Steve Downs in Knutsford's goal.

In the gathering gloom it seemed the game could go either way but it was Trafford who finished on a high note scoring two more goals in quick succession to round off a truly amazing game.

On Saturday the A team face their biggest game of the season when they entertain AFC Sale in the quarterfinal of the Altrincham Senior Cup.
