SETTLED weather up to and during the weekend has improved sport on the majority of Lymm Angling Club's waters.

Those waters that have been quiet during the last month or so are beginning to show positive signs of improvement.

On Lymmvale, the weather has been almost perfect for long distance waggler fishing - the flavoured method for catching the massive chub that this water holds.

Member Kevin Jameson took advantage of the situation and caught chub to 4lbs plus a tench of 2lbs.

Founders Pool is another water that has settled well with good mixed bags of fish reported.

However, the most notable captures have been large roach with individual fish up to 2lbs commonplace.

Where are these fish in the summer? Such fish nearly always appear on catch returns in the winter when the weather is very dull.

Village Pool has continued to be the star performer with plenty of fish caught to all methods.

Over the road on Whitley Pool, uncoloured goldfish and small carp have been dominating the action with bread and worms appearing to draw most bites.

The few river reports that I have received have certainly indicated that they have been fishing well with chub action the main talking point.

Mark Long bagged up on our Manor Farm stretch of the River Dane at the weekend.

Mark, travelling light and roving from swim to swim, caught numerous chub to 2lbs trotting double red maggot.

He also landed dace and the odd roach although he reports there were no signs of barbel.

On the carp scene, fish have been reported at Belmont Pool, Village Pool, Whitley Pool and Founders Pool.

Despite decent weather there has not been a lot of anglers out and about. This is most likely to do with the fact that Christmas is looming up and preparations for it have overtaken everything else.

The club's netting team was out on our stock pool facility on Antrobus golf course at the weekend. This resulted in a number of very pretty ghost carp, of about 7lbs, being released into Monks Moat.

Unfortunately, no tench showed up in the net. It was intended for a number of these fish to be transported to Farm Pool.
