WARRINGTON Anglers' Association member Rob Green fished the Macclesfield Canal at Scholar Green this week using a pole at 10 metres out.

He alternated between maggot and caster for a 10lbs net of fish which included roach, perch, gudgeon and a 1lbs tench.

This underused fishery is worth a visit, specially if the weather remains mild at the weekend.

Andy Condron has caught the biggest grayling from the River Dane that I have heard of for some time.

The fish, which weighed in at 2lbs 8ozs 0drms, was among a mixed net of chub and smaller grayling.

Our local bailiff, Ron Williams, had seven chub to 3-8-0.

Chub featured in the Mersey Match results on Sunday with Paul Healey taking top spot with 4-15-12.

However, third-placed Gordon Buckley had an all roach catch of 13 fish for his 4-7-8.

Our national squad are due to start running a series of fund-raising open matches at various venues, starting with the Macclesfield Canal on December 30.

The draw will be held at 9am at the Queens Head in Congleton. Anyone interested in taking part should book in via Craig Richie on 07984 859701 or Cheshire Angling on 635486.

The Mid-Cheshire Winter League final placings saw Warrington anglers, which contained a lot of new faces, finish in third place just behind Gaswise.

Congratulations to the winners - Lymm Angling Club.
