POLICE still don't know the cause of death of a man whose body was pulled from the Mersey, at Bridge Foot, this week.
Emergency services were called to the waterside, close to Mr Smith's nightclub, at 9.37am on Monday.
The body was recovered on the other side of the river at Chester Road following the efforts of police and fire crews.
A post mortem examination was carried out on Tuesday but was inconclusive.
A spokesman for the police said that the body was that of a man, reported missing from home in Manchester and that the family had been notified.
However, police had not named the man as the Guardian went to press.
