GOLBORNE Parkside are seeking another heroic GMB BARLA National Cup run.

They will entertain Stanley Rangers in the second round at Intex Sports and Social Club on Saturday, kick-off 2pm.

Rangers currently lie in second place in the CMS Yorkshire Premier League and will be a tough proposition for Golborne's young team.

But last year's historic giant-killing exploits, that saw them dump undefeated Bank Quay Bulls and two National League sides Millom and Eccles out of the cup, will put them in good stead for their toughest test of the season so far.

Golborne booked their second round tie after finally managing to play their first round fixture against Southport.

That was Golborne's first game for five weeks due to the weather causing postponements of their previous four fixtures but John Prince's men made short work of ending the game as a contest and going on to win 58-0 against the North West Counties Division Five side.

It did not take long for Golborne to open the scoring through 19-year-old winger Craig Timmins, who crossed in the corner in the fourth minute after a good pass from Gary Dooney.

Golborne continued to dominate and 18-year-old centre Mathew Williams scored twice in the next 12 minutes and again Stuart Arkwright superbly goaled from wide out to give Golborne an 18-0 lead.

Further good teamwork resulted in prop forward Chris Miller crashing over and winger Lee Cooper, who was making his first team debut, also score for a 28-0 half-time lead.

Golborne added second half tries via 21-year-old scrum half Andy Simms, 20-year-old second row Chris Woods, 18-year-old substitute Tommy Smith plus second tries by Timmins and Miller.

Stand off Arkwright was the man of the match, closely followed by Chris Woods and Chris Miller.
