primary school children have dug deep into their pockets to help victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Youngsters at Stockton Heath Primary School hosted a series of activities to bring in more than £1,100 for the cause.

A tattoo transfer stall, a cake sale and a special Haiti magazine, including Sudoku puzzles, raised money last week.

Children also gave up things in their life for the day to understand how people in Haiti may feel.

Lynda Carnes, head teacher, said: “The children showed real incentive and showed they are globally aware. We held an assembly about Haiti and the children knew some of the key stories.

“They showed real empathy.”

She said one boy opted to give up his bed while others gave up chocolate and games consoles.

Year six pupils at St Matthew’s CE Primary School, on Stretton Road, Stretton, also held a cake sale for the Haiti appeal.

They raised £219 from the event on January 29.
