A BID to raise thousands of pounds to help a High Legh youngster with a rare condition has been launched.

Little Shannon Boam’s supporters are hoping to send her to America to treat her rare condition called Peters Plus Syndrome.

Shannon’s parents Simon and Julie, of Rensherds Place, High Legh, are looking to raise £27,000 for treatment.

Shannon, aged 20 months, has had grafts on her corneas to help save some of her vision but she lost her right eye in August 2008 following an infection.

Julie said: “We’ve got to keep that retina active and with the graft failing that’s difficult to do. If we don’t do anything she could end up with no eyes.”

Shannon’s best hope to be able to read and write one day is artificial cornea replacement surgery called keratoprosthesis in America. But it costs around £27,000.

The Northwich Guardian, our sister title, launched a campaign to help raise the cash.

ChildFlight, which offers flights for sick children, has offered to pay for Shannon’s ticket to the States.

High Legh Primary School has also arranged a whole host of events and raised £86 at a cake sale on Friday.

You can donate to Shannon’s appeal using the sort code 090000, account number 00050005 and the reference number x15556180boa.

Alternatively cheques payable to Miss Shannon Jade Boam can be sent to Mr and Mrs Boam, 58 Rensherds Place, High Legh, Cheshire, WA16 6NG.
