THE search is on for a dance star in the making to appear in Billy Elliot.

CODYS Productions has become just one of 300 organisations to be granted rights to perform an adapted amateur version of the hit West End and Broadway musical.

And they will also get to perform scenes from the show at the London home to the show - Victoria Palace Theatre.

Nick Cupit, CODYS chairman, said: “CODYS now has the opportunity to be a part of this worldwide success which is a dream come true for many of our members. The fact that our production will be judged against all others being staged across the country and may provide us with the opportunity to appear on stage in the West End, makes the whole experience even more exciting for us all.”

The show, based on the 2000 hit film, follows a young boy’s dream to dance set during the 1980s miners strikes and features music from Sir Elton John.

“We will be working with the West-End creative team who will provide advice and guidance throughout the creative process and assisting us in providing a magical experience for both our members and audiences,” added Nick.

The group are looking for two boys aged between 10 and 14 who can sing and tap dance to play Billy over seven alternative performances, which are expected to run in July 2010.

Auditions will take place early this month and there are also some places available for boys aged between 14 and 19-years-old.
