A MAN has been arrested after more than 30 bags of mail were found dumped in Appleton on Sunday.
The discovery was made by a walker at around 3.30pm at Walton Gardens.
A police spokesman said: “A member of the public found what he believes to be 30 small bags of mail dumped at the side of the road.
“They were wet so they had been there a while and they were still tied up.
“We made enquiries with Royal Mail and a man was arrested that day.”
The 27-year-old man from Warrington was arrested on suspicion of theft of Royal Mail bags and was released on police bail until January 18.
A spokesman for Royal Mail said: “Some items of mail have been recovered from the Appleton area and will be delivered with a letter of explanation.
“We apologise to customers whose mail is among the delayed items. We are investigating the incident in conjunction with the police.”
